Hi. I'm Sandy Hoogland and I'm in charge of the Faith Town of Scott Cemetery project.  My son was called to his heavenly home in 2003 and is buried in the country cemetery next to our home.  The first couple of years I began planting fowers around his grave, finding comfort in seeing the plants grow and emerge from the soil each spring.  A couple of years later some dear friends also lost their son and he is buried near our son.  They asked if I would help beatutify that grave as well.  Soon that led to completeing the whole row, digging up sod and planting flowers in between each grave.  I recruited some help from other church members and each year we completed more rows until now the whole cemetary is a virtual garden.  Family members find it comforting and visit often.  Complete strangers frequently tour the cemetery and artists set up their easels to paint.

I'm a Master Gardener Volunteer and when I'm working at the cemetery, feel free to stop and ask questions or seek advice.  Or contact me through this site.  If I don't know the answer to your question I will research it and get you an answer.  This year I've begun labeling the flowers and trees in the cemetery to educate visitors who are curious to know the varieties and find inspiration for their own gardens.

By clicking on the tabs above you will see the photo gallery I'm buildling of the plants we have in the cemetery with information on each variety. It's a work in progress.

I can't close without giving credit where it is due.  My friend, Phyllis Buch puts in countless hours beautifyig the cemetary, several other church memebers have volunteered time and hard work digging up sod to create the rows and several also volunteer their time weeding in the spring.  I thank each of you.  You have made this project a blessing to me and to many others as well.
